Into the Weeds....

Shortly after taking ownership of the properties we noticed that one of the units had a musty, old smoke smell.  All units in the complex are “smoke free” so we weren’t sure what was going on.  

First we started diffusing Doterra’s Purify Oil to clean the air and give a fresh smell to the property.  

We noticed that the previous owners and cleaners would spray an air cleanser/deodorizer on the vents but that it just masked the issue.  It seemed as if the neighboring unit (long term rental) was smoking in the bathroom and it was seeping through the vents and lighting.  To counteract this possibility, we switched out the all can lights to fully enclosed closed can lights from Amazon.  It was a super easy change that helped, but the smell persisted.  

One afternoon while working on our unit, there was a carpenter completely gutting the unit next door.  Much to our surprise, as well as the owner of the unit, the long term renters had been GROWING WEED in the unit.  Thankfully once the unit was gutted and cleaned, the smell went away.  You just never know what you are going to run into in the rental business.  

Thankfully we haven’t had any issues with our renters, we do have No Smoking and No Vaping signs next to the door to help ensure guests remember the policies that have been outlined.
